In the Texas hill country, if the drought doesn’t get your plants, the deer will.  It takes a little more effort to keep things alive out here.  And, it is very difficult drilling post holes our here.  When it comes to building a deer proof orchard or garden, we have come to be known as the deer proof garden kings!  We have done lots of them out here in the hill country.  We can build deer proof gardens and orchards out of any materials, but we believe the best results are created using steel pipe for the posts, braided 6ft. garden wire, and use a single strand of barbless wire placed about 18” above the top of the garden wire.  This way we get a deer proof garden or orchard enclosure of 7 ½ ft in height.  This will deter 99% of all deer when used for a small enclosure.

Most of the deer proof orchards and gardens we create are appx. 1200 sq. ft to 1500 sq. ft. in size.  The building process is not a simple one.  It begins with drilling holes for the posts, usually in fragmented rock soils, sometimes in solid rock.  Once this is completed we can begin the deer proof garden and orchard project.  We align the posts properly, and set posts in concrete.  When the concrete has cured, we stretch the wire around the corner posts which are supported with horizontal pipe for strength.  We use a tractor to stretch wire because it gives us a tension that we can not get with a hand held come-along.  We install gates and get them to swing perfectly.  We install irrigation and water lines if you want water flowing in your deer proof garden or orchard.  High organic soil can be added to whatever depth you want in your deer proof garden or orchard.  And finally, we will treat the steel with a rust preventative and paint the entire deer proof orchard or garden with rustoleum paint of your color choice.  If you tell us where you want the holes for your fruit trees, we will dig them all, and you can enjoy the process of actually planting the fruit trees, or we can do it for you.
