POST HOLES & TREE HOLE DIGGING - DRILLING |
|
HOW MANY HOLES IN A DAY? One question everyone asks, is, "how many holes can you do in one day? This is an impossible question to answer accurately. Across the hill country, the earth is quite varied. In fact, from one hole to the next, just a few feet away can be so different that it takes 5 minutes for one hole and 30 minutes for the next. That being said, the average for more difficult earth characteristics is about 2 to 4 holes per hour, and the average for easier earth characteristics is about 5 or 6 holes per hour. Depth of the hole plays a factor too. The deeper the hole, the longer it takes to drill. Because the ground is so solid and stable out here in the Texas Hill Country, you really don't need much more than 18" to 20" of hole depth to end up with a very solid post, when building a fence, or other general post needs. The width of the hole does not seem to be as much of a factor in the time it takes to produce a hole. Most holes will need to be cleaned out a bit. Hill country rock and caliche is so dry that it just flat out refuses to be lifted out of the hole by the auger. Instead, it just falls right back into the hole. Have yourself a good hand held post hole digger to remove some of the dirt. You won't need to get it all out. We clean out the holes as best we can with the auger, but hand held post hole work is not included in our pricing. We will do it for you upon special request, but you can save money by doing it yourself. In general, our auger cleans about 75% of the dirt out of the hole. But when conditions are really dry, that may drop to 25%. The dryer the soil, the less soil will come out of the holes with our auger.
